Not all of your business-critical IT assets reside in the data center. Point of sale systems, kiosks and client-facing applications can be just as important to business success as the servers and network they rely on. Unfortunately, these assets have remained beyond the scope of virtually all enterprise management solutions, complicating the task of bringing them into a comprehensive IT Operations strategy. Until now.
The FireScope Sentinel is an application with a minimal resource footprint that resides within your branch offices, collects event information and performance metrics from the networked assets at that location, and forwards this information to a parent FireScope Appliance.
From the strategic perspective, IT leaders gain visibility into how each branch office is performing from a technology (e.g. bandwidth utilization, outage reporting) and business (e.g. transactions per hour, revenue generated) perspective that includes a much deeper set of data than any available Business Service Management Solution. From a tactical perspective, organizations that cannot dedicate IT staff to each location can automate routine tasks, receive notifications when the business is interrupted due to technology incidents, and prioritize location visits to maximize business value.
In the above diagram, a Sentinel is deployed at two outlets or storefronts, containing up to 25 networked assets such as network equipment, core business applications, Point of Sale solutions, printers and servers. All data collected by the Sentinel is pushed up to an FS-2000 at corporate headquarters where it is aggregated with data collected by up to 1,000 other FireScope appliances and Sentinels for truly global Business Service Management. Click any of the FireScope appliances in the diagram above for more information on that model.
Achieve BSM with a Dispersed InfrastructurePoint of sale systems and other customer-facing technology are essential elements in the enterprise’s ability to generate revenue and to manage operations efficiently. Despite their importance, most IT enterprise monitoring systems provide little to no insight into the performance of assets at dispersed locations, such as branch offices and retail locations. Without measurable data on dispersed assets, IT organizations employing a Business Service Management (BSM) approach cannot fully evaluate their impact on revenue and costs. FireScope Sentinel offers a breakthrough that enables even limited IT staffs to extend their view into virtually an unlimited number of assets located anywhere around the globe. |
